2. Limitations and Possibilities for Multiethnic Co-existence in Kosovo and Macedonia: Zones of Compatibility and Incompatibility
2003-07-03 / 2003-07-04
The round table was funded and co-organized by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation. The objective was to bring together representatives of the main ethnic groups in Kosovo and Macedonia to discuss the interethnic co-existence and the state of tolerance between Serbs and Albanians / Macedonians and Albanians, considered as a political, economic, social and cultural reality both in the Province and in the Republic.
The discussion aimed at predisposing academics and politicians representing these ethnic communities to a frank and pragmatic approach, not to mimicry and attempts to stick to some declarative and formal stands that correspond to European standards. The real state of minorities and their relations with the majority were formulated and determined by all participants, and certain steps for extending the areas of tolerance were discussed. The participation of Bulgarian academics and politicians was accepted as presence of an unbiased and disinterested party.
